In November 2014, I will be embarking on an epic fundraising challenge with Inspired Adventures, trekking for 5 days through the desert landscapes of western Gujarat, India and fundraising to support The Anganwadi Project. As a team we are aiming to fund the design and construction of a new anganwadi (pre-schol) in the Tekra slums of Ahmedabad.

In the slums of Ahmedabad, children’s schools are housed in tiny, corrugated iron lean-tos, with poor light and little ventilation. In summer these schools are stifling hot, making it impossible for children to learn.

• $50 buys and connects a new ceiling fan
• $200 pays for a new tap giving students access to clean water
• $500 funds the construction of a new roof
• $1,500 erects the exterior walls
• $3,500 lays the floor, and builds the walls and roof of an anganwadi

I have pledged to raise $3,500 for The Anganwadi Project and I need your help to reach my target. If you were able to support me in any way it would be greatly appreciated and will bring me closer to reaching my goal. Every little bit helps! Maybe you could buy a fan for $50 or a tap for $200 to give the children access to clean water?

You will not only provide a beautiful space in which the children can learn, but also a peaceful and safe sanctuary – a place where they receive what is often their only meal of the day. Out of school hours, TAP pre-schools become vibrant community hubs for these impoverished communities. They double as meeting centres, gardens and even health clinics.
